Why Argentina?

When international students come to Argentina, they will find a country providing them with a wide, diversified and qualified variety of both undergraduate and graduate higher education studies, as well as an affordable cost of living. In addition, they will have the chance to share academic activities with other foreign youngsters and the possibility of having a unique life experience while touring around a country offering a sharp contrast of geographical and climatic conditions.

Argentina has a population of 40 million inhabitants living in an area extending over a slightly more than 1,5 square km. In terms of its organization, the branches division republican principles are applicable and the country is governed under a federal organization system. Such a system is characterised by more than a 150 year-tradition regarding the hospitable welcome offered to men and women having different ethnic races, religions and ideologies at a worldwide level. In the same breath, a growing acknowledgement and respect is shown towards its native indians´communities.

Apart from its world famous landscapes where we can find deserts with fertile pampas, quiet beaches extending alongside snow-capped mountains, as well as falls with glaciers, reference should also be made to the existence of a consolidated democratic life and to the ongoing institutional government that has been in office since 1983. In addition, there exist over 3000 cities where inhabitants fully exercise their autonomous rights and the 23 Argentine provinces and Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires exercise their authority while fulfilling their duties to provide the population with health, justice, education and security services.

Some Argentine cities have been around for more than 400 years and were founded during the Spanish colonization. Others, however, have existed for less than a decade. Therefore, a visitor will find secular traditions together with a cosmopolitan view, which is a typical combination characterizing the Argentine people.

The importance that has been attached to education for over 120 years allows recording one of the world´s highest literacy rates; therefore, an average Argentine individual knows how to read and write and is interested in issues that are of great concern for mankind, renowned artists, scholars and scientists, as well as for professionals whose qualifications are acknowledged at home and abroad.

Such a significance is likewise appreciated by means of a system made up of 107 higher education, state-run and privately owned institutions hosting over 1.500.000 students who attend those institutions that have been recently set up, or universities founded before the Argentine State was created; such cases being the ones of Cordoba and Buenos Aires Universities, founded in 1613 and 1821 respectively.

Thus, when international students come to Argentina, they will find a country providing them with a wide, diversified and qualified variety of both undergraduate and graduate higher education studies, as well as an affordable cost of living. In addition, they will have the chance to share academic activities with other foreign youngsters and the possibility of having a unique life experience while touring around a country offering a sharp contrast of geographical and climatic conditions.
